For the 12th year, Giving Tuesday brought people together from every corner of the world to champion the causes closest to their hearts.

Our platform results highlight what sets GoFundMe apart: As the only platform that embraces all sides of giving, we empower nonprofits addressing urgent needs and individuals rallying for personal causes. 

Together, our communities achieved incredible impact, raising $65,371,592 across our platform to fuel positive change. This milestone underscores the unique strength of GoFundMe and Classy from GoFundMe in amplifying generosity and empowering nonprofits and individuals to transform their passion into lasting impact.

Trends in generosity 

In recent years, economic challenges have posed significant obstacles to charitable giving, with annual contributions on a downward trend. Yet, Giving Tuesday consistently defies these challenges, bringing people together globally with a shared purpose to make an impact. 

Contributions on this day have reached remarkable milestones over the past three years—$2.7 billion, $3.1 billion, and $3.12 billion—demonstrating the enduring power of collective generosity.

The GoFundMe platform reflects this momentum, delivering impressive results on Giving Tuesday 2024. Let’s dive into the details below.

How social shares multiply donations

This Giving Tuesday, the power of “giving forward” was in full force, amplifying generosity across social media. Over 300 nonprofits activated our first-of-its-kind Meta integration in the month leading up to Giving Tuesday, turning shares into an effective tool for expanding reach and inspiring others to contribute. 

The impact of social sharing was especially pronounced among Gen Z. Insights from our Social State of Giving report revealed that half of Gen Z shares causes or fundraisers at least once a week, and 46% believe that sharing donations inspires others to give.

By empowering individuals to easily share their support, nonprofits tapped into a vast network of potential donors, creating a ripple effect of generosity.

The financial and community impact of social sharing

Our research shows that every time an organizer shares their GoFundMe fundraiser, it can help drive an additional $100 toward their goal, on average—underscoring the financial and communal value of leveraging your immediate network, especially via social media.

But this amplification doesn’t just raise funds. It builds community, with 41% of Gen Z saying social media content has motivated them to research or donate to a cause. This trend of social media influence extends across generations, as 25% of Millennials and 20% of Gen X also report being inspired by what they see online. 

To make it even easier to have an impact through sharing, GoFundMe recently launched Profiles, a new tool designed to empower people everywhere to champion the causes and nonprofits that they support. Well-known influencers including Good News Movement, The Dogist, Flavor Flav, Little Miss Flint, and Patriotic Kenny have launched GoFundMe Profiles, calling on their followers to join them in giving to and amplifying the people and causes that matter most to them.

By harnessing the power of shares, likes, and comments, nonprofits spread their missions far beyond their immediate networks, maximizing the impact of every donation and solidifying social media as a vital tool for growing a community of generosity.
