What is Driving for Kids?

Based on similar events in the UK, Driving for Kids is the Colorado version of a British Reliability Run. Begun in Britain when cars were first introduced, these reliability runs like the London to Brighton Run, were quite a challenge for the newfangled horseless carriage. Now it is more a nostalgic tribute to the spirit of “Motoring”. Driving for Kids is a three day drive in old British cars, benefitting the Roundup River Ranch mission. It is not a race, and is run on public roads at posted speeds. It is an endurance test of sorts, to see just how reliable these supposedly “unreliable” British cars really are. Driving for Kids is a fun weekend with fellow owners of old British cars orchestrated by Ann and Ross Robbins to combine two things they cherish: kids and cars. Wanting to find a way to help kids through the car hobby they became aware of the Hole in the Wall Gang camps founded by Paul Newman who was also a dedicated car nut. The perfect connection was made to our local camp, Roundup River Ranch, and Driving for Kids was launched.

Roundup River Ranch is a medically-supported camp for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. At camp, the children can just feel incredible, no matter what illness they’re battling. The focus is on fun, not their conditions. Most importantly, they are given an experience that energizes their spirits, allowing them to simply enjoy the fun, games, and joys of childhood – all free to campers and their families. View the video above for a short video that will give you a sense of the camp or visit the Roundup River Ranch website for addtional information at: www.roundupriverranch.org.

How Do I Get Involved?

You can join us with your 1976 or older British car here: www.drivingforkids.com if you want to participate on the Drive, or contribute here if you wish to support this worthy cause. You may contribute to a specific team here then selecting your team from the drop down box. Or if you don’t have a connection to a specific team, you can donate to Driving for Kids generically by selecting general donations from the drop down.

Get Creative $250

Provide necessary supplies for the Art Yurt, the place where anything goes and everyone is an artist. Provide supplies like glow in the dark paint, wooden frames, glitter, and much, much more. Your generosity allows campers to express their individuality and show off their creative talents.

Fundraise

Spread S'more Love $500

Gather around the campfire. Thanks to you chocolate, graham crackers, creative ingredients like apples, and gooey fingers will all be a part of the fun! This is campers' first introduction to the magic of camp and shared experiences.

Fundraise

Sponsor A Camper $2,500

Camp - changing lives, one summer and one camper at a time. Every single thing we do, every decision we make, every game we play, even every song we sing are done in the best interest of our campers. We put campers and their families first. Always.

Fundraise

We Are Family $5,000

At Roundup River Ranch, there’s no age limit on silliness, laughter, or needing a break from the real world. So at camp, families are supported with love and empathy as they relish this unique chance to escape the stress of their child’s medical condition, and connect with others who are on a similar journey. We love knowing that a family dancing together is also healing together.
