Cecilia faz 4 anos! 

Esse último ano foi de muitos desafios e realizações para nossa filha Cecília. Começando pelas conquistas, conseguimos que ela iniciasse sua jornada escolar em uma escola típica (a mesma que a Malu), que fizesse sua primeira viagem de avião (e amou!) e que aumentasse seu processo de socialização - tão importante nessa idade! Ainda assim, desafios surgiram, pois são muitas as limitações impostas pela miopatia nemalínica: cada virose trouxe um risco enorme para sua capacidade respiratória (em julho ela foi internada por 1 semana depois de quase 3 anos longe dos hospitais), as dificuldades de deglutição deixaram mais difíceis a ingestão de calorias necessárias (tentamos evoluir com a parte alimentar mas não conseguimos), toda a movimentação física (com o crescimento dela) dependendo de alguém para apoiá-la exige muito mais de todo o time de cuidadores, entre outras.

Tudo isso só nos faz querer apoiar ainda mais a organização que financia estudos em busca de tratamentos (e quem sabe, a cura) para a Miopatia Nemalínica - já somos parte da liderança da A Foundation Building Strength - AFBS (https://buildingstrength.org/) há mais de 1 ano e acompanhamos de perto todo o trabalho. Todas as doações vão diretamente para o financiamento das pesquisas (nós, as famílias envolvidas, além das doações pessoais para pesquisas, financiamos o custo da fundação em si).

Em 2021 nossa campanha atingiu 180 doadores e levantou mais de U$ 70K - esse ano queremos aumentar ainda mais nosso IMPACTO. This last year was filled with challenges and accomplishments for our daughter Cecilia. Starting with the great achievements, she started her education journey in a standard school (same as her sister Malu) and she travelled by plane with the whole family (and just loved it), enhancing her socialization process a lot - so important at her age. Besides that, challenges have emerged due to the many limitations imposed by nemaline myopathy: every simple flu/cold brought severe risks to her respiratory capacity (in July she spent 1 week at the hospital after almost 3 years with no hospitalization), the challenges to swallow created an additional challenge to for her calorie intakes (a challenge that we could not overcome this past year) and, as all her physical mobility actually relies on the the support of her caretakers, every year the effort increases with her natural grown process.

Looking back, all that Cecilia has overcome just makes us more engaged with the foundation that finances research aiming treatments (and maybe the cure) for Nemaline Myopathy. We have already been part of the leadership of A Foundation Building Strength - AFBS (https://buildingstrength.org/) for more than an year overseeing and helping in all the work they do. All donations are 100% destined to finance the research (we, board members, besides our personal donations for research, also bear the administrative costs of the foundation itself).

Last year, our campaign was supported by 180 amazing donors and raised more than USD 70.000,00. For this year, our goal is to increase our IMPACT even further.
