This is especially true of Tammy Carpenter.
She made everyone she met feel seen, inspired, included, and loved.
Tammy believed that love is thicker than blood, which explains the strength and breadth of the enormous community she built with her own incredible ability to give love. Among her many talents and interests (ranging from lamp working to acting to roller derby to horticulture), Tammy was a fierce activist for women’s rights, social justice, and equality.
Magic Wheelchair, an organization that uses its donations to build epic costumes for children in wheelchairs, is one of Tammy’s favorite non-profits. It works directly toward many things that brought her joy: children, dressing up, equality, and fun. Magic Wheelchair receives requests for costumes from children in wheelchairs from all over the country who want to join their peers in dressing up for Halloween and other events. The charity then arranges groups of local volunteers to build those costumes – Batmobiles, dragons, boats, jets, turtles, and more.
