ARMY chose Mental Health as the cause to support Jin's birthday. So, this year, we are working with Project HEAL, a non-profit organization that focuses on creating equity in the eating disorder treatment landscape by providing immediate help through their programs and bringing a long-term change in the system by breaking down systemic, healthcare and financial barriers. 

As mentioned on their website, out of 30 million Americans with eating disorders, only 20% receive treatment and with the pandemic highlighting the loopholes in the healthcare sector, a lot of people have been left stranded.

The financial and insurance barriers post huge risks as eating disorders are the second most fatal mental illness, with one person losing their life as a direct result of it every 52 minutes. Project HEAL’s life-saving support comprises 3 programs:

• Treatment: Through their HEALers Circle program, the organization provides free treatment to uninsured and underinsured individuals, impacted by eating disorders. 
• Insurance: Project HEAL’s insurance navigation specialists and resource guides help individuals understand their insurance benefits and also advocate on their behalf to get their treatment covered.
• Cash Assistance: To the individuals who are able to demonstrate financial need, Project HEAL provides one-time cash assistance to unlock insurance benefits and help them access treatment. The organization, if required, also pays for travel costs and other expenses associated with the treatment.
• Your donation will help them run their programs and reach out to people looking for assistance with accessing treatment for eating disorders.
