HELP US SAVE COSTA RICA'S CORAL REEFS FROM EXTINCTION

During this extreme El Niño coral bleaching event, we can preserve genotypes at our laboratory before they are lost forever.

An Urgent Call to Action - You Can Contribute in the Following Ways:

Sponsor an Existing Coral in Our Lab $25

With this fundamental donation, we will be able to maintain and preserve a variety of healthy coral fragments, research their growth under different conditions, and eventually return the most resilient "Super Corals" back to the ocean when the offshore conditions are more favorable to their survival.

Donate

Sponsor Fish Care and Biology in Our Lab $50

With this donation, we will be able to provide essential food and maintenance for the fish, crabs, shimp, and microscopic marine life that provide a vital symbiotic relationship to the biology in our tanks. To grow healthy corals, it is essential that we do our best to replicate a natural environment in our lab.

Donate

Sponsor Tank Maintenance For a Month $100

With this sponsorship, you will be helping us to maintain an entire fragmentation tank for a month. This support ranges from weekly salt water changes to other essential products that create consistent PH and salinity levels, plus other factors, with the goal of replicating familiar local conditions here in Costa Rica.

Donate

Sponsor Healthy Coral Collection $500

With this sponsorship, we will be able to perform field work, identify and collect healthy corals, and bring them back to the lab before they perish under El Nino's harsh conditions. We will witness zones with extreme coral loss and document areas where corals have survived during this drastic rise in oceanic temperature.

Donate

Sponsor an Existing Coral Preservation Tank $1,000

With your sponsorship we will be able to cover the fixed costs of one of our current fragmentation tanks. With your assistance, we can sustain our existing operation, strengthen our roots, and allocate more resources for growth.

Donate

Sponsor Volunteer Housing at Our Project $2,500

None of this will be possible without talented and caring people on-site. With this donation, you will directly support our volunteers, researchers, and divers who provide the passion and self sacrifice that allows our project to thrive.

Donate

Sponsor the Creation of a New Coral Tank $5,000

With this sponsorship, we will be able to install a new tank to receive and preserve more coral genotypes (like a seed bank) before they are irreversibly wiped out due to the current El Niño and strengthening climate change.

Donate

Sponsor a New Coral Reproduction Facility $10,000

With this heroic donation, you will be contributing to the next stage of our project, where we will produce coral fragments in larger volumes to share and collaborate with other coral restoration projects across Costa Rica.

About the Campaign

The time to act is now! Due to an extremely harsh El Niño phenomenon, Costa Rica's coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate.

As of early this year, we suspended all offshore coral planting projects and began solely focusing on our coral reef tanks.  In our laboratory, we can safeguard and maintain healthy coral pieces to wait out the unfavorable conditions, effectively preventing those species from being lost forever.

We are currently working with other coral restoration projects in Costa Rica to house their coral frags in our lab tanks, preventing them from being casualties of El Niño.  A first in Costa Rica, the collaboration between separate non-profits coming together towards the same goal: saving our reefs.

Costa Rica Coral Restoration is the only coral restoration non-profit in the country that has the facilities to store coral while we wait out this unprecedented rise in ocean temperatures.

However, we need help expanding our lab to be able to accommodate as many coral species as we can store.  This is where we need your help. With your support, we can expand the lab to house as many corals as possible.

We are all hands-on deck here; will you lend yours?
