About the Ackers' Ministry
Jade and Shelah Acker serve in Kampala, Uganda, where they are committed to doing holistic ministry through Refuge and Hope International, a nonprofit organization they operate and began in 2004.
Refuge and Hope International serves the urban refugee community in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, which is located in East Africa. The nonprofit organization is located in a heavily refugee-populated area of the city that is primarily home to refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia and other countries affected by war and conflict.
Each year, Refuge and Hope serves more than 2,000 refugees through the Center of Hope, a school for adult refugees, as well as through skills and business training programs, youth and women’s ministry, spiritual development and social work programs.
The Ackers also offer educational, professional and personal development programs designed to help refugees recover from the effects of war, realize self-sufficiency and become catalysts for change in their communities.
Your generosity in support of the Ackers and their mission programs will transform lives. Your gifts can empower, equip and encourage communities and individuals through the power of Christ’s love. When you give, your partnership becomes a vital part of their ongoing work.

How to Help
$25 will provide supplies for ESL (English as a Second Language) classes.  Uganda hosts over 1.5 million refugees.  Many of them come from countries that do not speak English.  Refugees need English to survive in Uganda and it helps prepare them to be more self-sustaining.  Your gift of $25 will help refugees become more independent.
$50 will provide opportunities for youth in Kampala to receive empowerment and leadership programs.  Through the SMART (Sports, Music and Art) program at the Center of Hope, refugee youth will not only be empowered but also attend leadership and Bible classes.
$100 will provide emergency food for a refugee family living in Kampala. Our social work team evaluates the need and routinely does home visits to assess those in need. Often refugees in Kampala have no resources to feed themselves and their families. Your gift of $100 will help a refugee family in crisis.
