About Jonathan's Ministry
Jonathan serves in Bali, Indonesia as a minister, musician and community organizer specializing in building intercultural and interfaith connections through the arts.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Jonathan was nurtured in a rural church community and by a family that practiced love and hospitality. International study in the Middle East and North Africa while at Furman University and later working in a community center under field personnel emeritus Butch and Nell Green in Dakar Senegal, Jonathan discovered a passion for living and ministering cross-culturally.
The tiny Southeast Asian island of Bali is the crossroads for ministry, a hub for musicians, dancers, painters, actors, and writers with spokes that extend around the globe. Working in partnership with PosKo•Studio in Bali, Jonathan empowers artists globally to become the hands and feet of Jesus by attending to professional and spiritual needs. Additionally, he collaborates with PosKo•Studio to produce both live and recorded performances, which are then distributed digitally.
Jonathan oversees a year-round program of study of local music which attracts musicians and other performers from Bali and beyond. Periodic collaborations between creators and performers from different cultures and religions yield new works that focus on global situations like the war in Ukraine or the climate crisis through the lens of our local communities. Performances of these works are live-streamed and made available as digital media that can be accessed world-wide. Web-based virtual collaborations are creative connections irrespective of time and place. In short, the arts become a path for cultivating a beloved community that brings Christ-like healing to the world. Supporters of this ministry get special access to what’s happening on the ground in Bali and beyond.
