Julia Reid Howell was born on August 15, 2017 with a severe congenital heart defect, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

Julia Reid “JR” showed the strength and feistiness of a Heart Warrior as she battled each day. She had 3 open heart surgeries, numerous catheterizations/surgical procedures and fought complications during her 7 months and 5 days stay in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU at Duke Children’s Hospital. With peace in our hearts, Julia Reid gained her Angel Wings on March 20, 2018.

During JR’s stay, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Duke Children’s Hospital was a blessing of refuge for our family.  It was a place to relax, eat, use the computers, meet other families and share our story. We were always welcomed with open arms and hearts.

Julia Reid’s Family and their friends at the City of Durham Department of Community Development want to celebrate and memorialize the impact Julia Reid had on everyone’s life for her brief stay here on earth. Family and Friends want to show our love and support to other families who have to spend numerous hours at the hospital to be close to their love ones. We are raising funds for the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Duke Children’s Hospital to continue to provide this harbor for families.

By helping to raise funds for the room, we hope families will continue to experience the love and support the Howell Family and others have received from the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Duke.
