About the Campaign

Indigenous youth throughout Latin America are applying to get advanced degrees at an ever growing rate. Unfortunately, 70% of the youth who are accepted to study at CATIE lack the funds to enroll. Amigos of Costa Rica, The Tropics Foundation, CATIE, and our donors are addressing this head on.

This year, the Miley González Scholarship Fund for Indigenous Peoples will triple its impact. We're raising funds to provide a full scholarship to a deserving student from an indigenous community to attend CATIE, one of the most accomplished higher education research institutions in Latin America, located in Turrialba, Costa Rica.

About Miley González

Miley was born at Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, Texas, a Native American tribal entity.

Dr. González’ distinguished career in higher education, U.S. and State governments included serving as CATIE's Dean and Deputy Director General.

A lifelong advocate for Tribal Colleges, Hispanic-Serving and 1890s Historically Black Universities, his legacy lives on through this scholarship.
