Students from Latin America's Indigenous Communities often lack the funds to get an advanced degree
YOU CAN REVERSE THIS TREND
$35,000 is the full cost to obtain an advanced degree at CATIE. This covers tuition, fees, room & board, travel to and from their home community, and their research stipend. You will provide a life-changing opportunity for a young indigenous students whose earning potential will increase by 200% with a degree in hand.
By the end of their first year, CATIE students begin their field research. $5,000 covers the full cost of a student conducting their field studies, allowing them the opportunity to apply skills and practice innovations that will bring about sustainable change in their home communities.
$1,000 is roughly the cost for a month of tuition to attend classes at CATIE. It is here where students begin to reach their full potential and gain the knowledge and skills to make their communities healthier, more thriving places.
$500 helps cover a month of student living expenses while on campus including their dorm. Help a student resettle into a safe and nurturing home.
About the Campaign
Indigenous youth throughout Latin America are applying to get advanced degrees at an ever growing rate. Unfortunately, 70% of the youth who are accepted to study at CATIE lack the funds to enroll. Amigos of Costa Rica, The Tropics Foundation, CATIE, and our donors are addressing this head on.
This year, the Miley González Scholarship Fund for Indigenous Peoples will triple its impact. We're raising funds to provide a full scholarship to a deserving student from an indigenous community to attend CATIE, one of the most accomplished higher education research institutions in Latin America, located in Turrialba, Costa Rica.
