Join our students and best-selling author Karina Yan Glaser as she discusses her book The Vanderbeekers of 141 Street with the HEAF community, including a special Q + A.
Originally from California, Karina came to New York City for college and has stuck around for over twenty years. She has had a varied career teaching and implementing literacy programs in family homeless shelters and recruiting healthcare professionals to volunteer in under-resourced areas around the world. Now as a mother, one of her proudest achievements is raising two kids who can’t go anywhere without a book. She lives in Harlem with her husband, two daughters, and an assortment of rescued animals.
Our students have been reading The Vanderbeekers of 141 Street this Spring, a charming, funny, and heart-warming book about the five Vanderbeeker kids—Isa, Jessie, Oliver, Hyacinth, and Laney—and the plans they concoct to stay in their beloved Harlem home after their grumpy landlord decides not to renew their family's lease. We look forward to having you join us for an engaging conversation!
