Raising 10k for My 10th Transplant Birthday has raised $2,442 out of their goal of $10,000
10 years ago, I got an autologous bone marrow transplant. At the time, there was a 50% chance that it would work. And so, with baited breath, I waited for each milestone...
Celebrating 10 years...
Each milestone was huge. The first day, the first week. Then a month. Then the monumental 100 days. Then 1 year. And every year since. But this year is special. I’m finally entering the double digits.
One of the biggest thing I’ve learned about cancer, and honestly life in general, is that nothing is more important than community. When life is hard, people to share your burdens. When it is good, people to celebrate your joy. The community that surrounds and supports, in the highs and lows.
When I first entered the hospital, I received a giant tote bag, filled with comfort items: warm socks, a diffuser, lotions for the dry hospital air, and many other thoughtful items that I didn’t realize I’d need. That bag was from the Steven G. Cancer Foundation.
Ten years later, they still provide the support for newly diagnosed cancer peeps, and continuing support for survivors. From smoothie days, to virtual yoga, to connecting survivors across the country and across the world, this is the community I wish had existed for me 10 years ago.
My wish is that no other young adults will ever feel like they are alone and unsupported. I ask your support in helping me reach my ambitious goal to keep supporting young adults with cancer! All funds raised will go directly to the Steven G. Cancer Foundation so that they can continue helping other young adults with cancer like they helped me.
