About Shred The Love

Taos Ski Valley is proud to host B4BC's Shred the Love taking place on Saturday, February 15, 2020. The 8th annual celebration will include a full day of exciting fundraising activities to benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer’s (B4BC) education, outreach, and survivor retreats, and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. Shred the Love at Taos Ski Valley consists of two main highlight events:

Bumps Challenge – a fun and challenging marathon down the infamous Al’s Run – one of Taos Ski Valley’s most famous and popular mogul runs on the front face of the mountain. This event promotes an active lifestyle while raising awareness and funds for B4BC’s education and support programs. Skiers and boarders are invited to come out and participate in teams of two, or tackle the feat individually. ATHLETES MUST RAISE A MINIMUM OF $100 TO PARTICIPATE. REGISTER BY CLICKING ON THE "BECOME A FUNDRAISER" BUTTON ABOVE! ($65 discounted lift tickets available for participants.) See below for official rules and ways to earn extra points.
Paint For Peaks Art + Silent Auction - located at the Martini Tree, Taos Ski Valley will once again host the Paint for Peaks: Snowboard Art + Silent Auction featuring custom, one-of-a-kind artwork created on snowboards, skateboard decks, helmets and more.

Over the last 11 years Shred the Love at Taos Ski Valley has raised more than $175,000 for B4BC's education, prevention, and survivorship programs and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. Taos Ski Valley has also been home to many of B4BC's Winter Chasing Sunshine Young Breast Cancer Retreats where young local & regional women are selected to join us for a wellness weekend of skiing,  snowboarding, yoga and healing.

BUMPS CHALLENGE RULES:

The Bumps Challenge is a snowboard and ski competition in which participants compete as individuals or in teams of two and race down Al’s Run – TSV’s most infamous black diamond. Participants will take as many laps as safely as possible in a three -hour time period.

* NOTE – this year participants will be sharing a public high-speed lift AND it is a HOLIDAY WEEKEND. Line cutting, excessive speeds, and unsportsmanship like behavior will result in deducted laps or even disqualification.

Athletes (as teams or individuals) will secure donations online prior to the event. A minimum fundraising fee of $100 is required to participate. ONE BONUS RUN will be awarded to athletes in costumes; TWO BONUS RUNS will be awarded to Best Costume – which will be determined by the audience during the awards ceremony. Multi-person teams are expected to compete based on a relay format. Team members will “pass the bra” after each run.

Helmets are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED for all participants. Those participating without a helmet do so at their own risk.

Check-In / Registration:

Check-in will be held in the Martini Tree Bar on the morning of the event from 8:30 AM – 10 AM. Athletes are required to check-in and sign a waiver before the event start time. Bibs will be distributed randomly during registration. Competitors must wear bibs whenever skiing /snowboarding during the event. Lift tickets are required to participate. For those without a season pass, $65 +tax discounted lift tickets will be available.  Participants must check-in at the registration table to receive a $65 voucher.

Competition Start:

The Bumps Challenge will begin with a LeMans start at the top of the lift. During pre-race announcements, everyone will be required to place ski’s + boards in a designated area before lining up at the start line. When prompted you will run 100 feet to a bamboo pole, run around that pole and make your way back to your skis. Once secured in your skis or board you may tackle the challenge. When at the bottom of the run, a judge will be tracking your laps. You must make eye contact and yell your number to the tracker. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure your lap was marked.

All participants must be aware of the non-competing public and respectful in the lift line. Participants on snowboards must have one binding unstrapped ahead of entering the lift line.

Lift operators are not race officials.

Fundraising cut off for Top Fundraisers is at 4 PM.
