Soy Niña's Emergency Fund has raised $14,182 out of their goal of $20,000
What is Soy Niña's Mission?
Soy Niña is a nonprofit that works to prevent gender-based violence and early pregnancies. We work in three different communities in Desamparados, one of San José's most violent counties. We currently continue to serve more than 130 girls in primary school. All girls in Soy Niña are ages 6-12.

We firmly believe in girls and their potential to change the world.
How Has COVID-19 Impacted the Girls?
-EMOTIONAL HEALTH: Due to social distancing, an increase in household responsibilities, very limited physical space to play, girls experience a greater emotional burden. The girls have expressed feelings of confusion, challenges sleeping, issues with eating disorders, lack of resources for learning, heightened anxieties, and a lack of information about the current situation.
-SCHOOL LIFE: Access to wi-fi and virtual education is very limited in their communities. Some girls get homework sent by teachers via Whatsapp. Homework help can be limited since many of their caregivers did not finish primary school. This causes frustration and a lack of motivation for the girls. As of February 2021, most girls had not yet gone back to school in-person.
What is Soy Niña Doing to Help Girls?
Though we have not been able to see the girls at Club Niña since March 2020 (a year ago), we are still doing all that we can to support them. We are aware that the girls were left without our weekly meetings, which provided a safe space for expression and love. These girls are our first priority. Thus, we have been working EVEN HARDER to implement the following emergency plan:
**Six kits have already been distributed to more than 130 girls thanks to this campaign. We will be distributing the seventh edition of the monthly magazine this March 2021. We are also looking into making them available for more girls across Costa Rica.
Our Radio Program is now on Spotify!
With your financial support, we will be able to continue implementing this emergency plan. We know that all of our efforts transform into healthier, informed, and empowered girls.
They need our help now more than ever.
We also want to share that we may be able to distribute the kits to more girls across
Costa Rica. Stay tuned!
