The Lydian Gale Parr has raised $7,063 out of their goal of $20,000
The Lydian Gale Parr
by Alaina Ferris & Karinne Keithley Syers
The Lydian Gale Parr is a surreal and poetic chamber oratorio with ballet the follows a child emissary sent from a city under siege to deliver a letter to the attacking general. But the emissary cannot find him; at every place of arrival, the general has just left. Traveling through space and time, the emissary begins to shapeshift, to manifest freely: as boy, as girl, as man, as woman, as the Lydian Gale Parr, who journeys from ancient cities to cargo ships on an infinite errand to ask for an end to violence. They slip in and out of disparate webs of belonging, yet hold fast to their quest: a ghost child of war.

Why we need your help
We, Alaina and Karinne, have been building The Lydian Gale Parr together since 2017. From the start, we knew it couldn’t be fulfilled by a small cast: it needed a plurality of voices. Many of our 14 performers have been with us since our initial workshops, held with the support of artist residencies like New Dramatists and National Sawdust, where we paid performers out of pocket. We always knew that we wouldn’t be able to pay for a full production of this size on our own. When we were awarded the New York City Mayor’s Office Women’s Fund in 2023, we knew we finally had the momentum to get us there.
About half of our $120,000 budget has been supplied by grants from foundations; the remainder has to be raised through private donation, ticket sales, and in-kind support. This crowdfunding campaign aims to raise $20,000 of that balance. This is why we need your help! Our biggest expense is paying our 24-person crew of performers, designers and technicians a living wage during our rehearsals and performances.
This is a piece of work that we all deeply love, which has proven its beauty and impact every time we have shared it with audiences. Please help us bring it to fruition.
If you can donate, please consider doing so. If you cannot, consider passing this along to someone who might and, most of all, buy a ticket to the show!
