How To Help
Our organization is at a critical point in our growth and we need your support to fund a full time educational sales manager to manage all of our school districts and a head of research.
Social Media U is a dynamic, play-based, evidence-informed program designed to empower middle and high school students with the essential skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world. As students spend increasing amounts of time online, it's more important than ever to provide them with the tools to navigate technology with intention, balance, and awareness. We are on the brink of scale, with a state partnership already in place and an exciting new collaboration with the largest girls' organization in the U.S. These partnerships will enable us to expand our reach and impact, ensuring that more students have access to the critical skills they need for digital wellness.
We are excited to introduce #HalfTheStory's Digital Civics Academy – an annual summer program co-designed by youth, for youth. This 1-week immersive experience, combined with hands-on advocacy and organizational opportunities, equips the next generation of activists with the tools they need to influence the policies shaping our digital future. By supporting our program, you’re not just contributing to a singular effort—you’re helping to scale a movement. Our goal is to empower more young people with the skills to become digital change-makers, driving both global and local transformation in the digital well-being space. Join a growing community of young people who are changing the future of digital well-being. Through this program, participants will master essential skills in effective activism, storytelling, and leadership techniques—all critical for making lasting, impactful change in their communities and beyond. Your support can help us reach more students, scale our impact, and ensure that this movement continues to grow. Together, we can equip the next generation of leaders to influence the future of our digital world.
We are thrilled to introduce you to #HalfTheStory, a non-profit committed to empowering the next generation’s relationship with technology. This movement, which began ten years ago, has grown into a global effort, led by our Executive Director, Larissa May. As we celebrate this milestone, we are launching our 10 Years of Impact Campaign, aiming to raise $10 million to reach 1 million students.
The average American teen spends up to 7.5 hours a day online, and this constant digital engagement deeply impacts their emotional, social, and physical development. Currently, there is a significant gap in resources and programming addressing these challenges.
At #HalfTheStory, we aim to fill this void by equipping teens with the tools and habits they need to take control of their screens. This fall, we are relaunching our signature program, Social Media U, in school districts across the United States.
As part of our mission, we are committed to ensuring digital well-being is accessible to all students, regardless of their district’s resources. Thanks to our generous donors, we have created a special fund to ensure equitable access to our programs. However, we need your help to make this vision a reality.
Join us in our 10 Years of Impact Campaign and help us empower 1 million students with the digital well-being skills they need for a healthier relationship with technology.
