About 826 MSP
“My heart and my voice is from my ancestors... I have the power to speak up for my ancestors.” -Hawi, grade 10
826 MSP is a youth writing center which amplifies the voices of historically marginalized Twin Cities youth. Our mission is to amplify the voices, stories, and power of K-12 BIPOC students through writing, publishing, and leadership programs. We were established in 2009 in response to the educational opportunity gaps which persist in Minnesota due to systemic racism and other forms of institutionalized oppression.
We serve approximately 1,500 youth per year through free writing, tutoring, publishing and leadership programs both in and out of schools. We believe in writing as a catalyzing tool for processing experiences, building community, and transforming the world. We are the ninth chapter in the country's largest network of youth writing centers, 826 National.
