Talent

Saturday, September 16 @ 6pm: Tomo Nakayama

"When music journalists say things like 'this artist is a fixture in Seattle music,' there’s probably no one right now who fits that title better than Tomo Nakayama." - KEXP

Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Washington, Tomo Nakayama is an artist whose melodic, complex and emotionally compelling music has been praised by NPR, New York Times, and The Stranger. After two critically acclaimed indie-folk albums “Fog on the Lens” and “Pieces of Sky” (named "Best Folk Act" by Seattle Weekly), he surprised his fans by releasing the synthpop album "Melonday" (on Seattle label Porchlight Records). Co-produced by Yuuki Matthews (The Shins, Teardrops, Sufjan Stevens) and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Paramore, Tame Impala), “Melonday” was named one of the Top Albums of 2020 by Seattle Times, KEXP, and Seattle Met Magazine, and debuted at #1 on KEXP’s NW Charts. He has toured across the US and Japan, sharing the stage with Built to Spill, Thao, Daði Freyr, Fleet Foxes, Michael Hurley, Sons of Kemet, Ben Gibbard, Damien Jurado, Wye Oak, and Cornelius. He has collaborated with Dave Matthews, Sera Cahoone, Jherek Bischoff, and Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate). He also composed music and appeared as an actor in the Lynn Shelton film “Touchy Feely” with Elliot Page and Rosemarie DeWitt.

Saturday, September 16 @ 5:45: Exhibition Match with Irina Tereschenko and Connor Garnett

IRINA TERESCHENKO has been playing and coaching racquet sports for over 20 years (a veteran, one might say) and is one of the top-ranked women’s professional pickleball players in the world in all three divisions.

Tereschenko is originally from Russia, but moved to Texas to pursue a college tennis scholarship. Tereschenko played #1 in singles and doubles for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and completed both an undergraduate degree in Advertising and a graduate degree in Sport Management. After college, Tereschenko worked with high-performance juniors at the Gorin Tennis Academy and coached Division I college tennis at Texas Tech University and the University of Washington. Tereschenko continues to pursue her academic career as an adjunct lecturer at the School of Professional Advancement at Tulane and as a research assistant at the Center for Leadership in Athletics at the University of Washington.

CONNOR GARNETT hails from Bellevue, Washington. As a young boy, he developed a passion for tennis and went on to have an undefeated high school career at Interlake Highschool. He continued to pursue his love for tennis by playing D1 tennis at Santa Clara University, and even played tennis in England while he spent the year studying finance at the University of Nottingham as well.

Among his notable tennis achievements, Connor won the Sportsmanship Award for all athletes in the 12 West Coast Conference schools during his sophomore year, emerged as the winner of the Washington State Open, and had the opportunity to hit with top pro players such as Novak Djokovic, Gael Monfils, and Simona Halep at the U.S. Open.

Connor works in finance and is an investment banker, but has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Follow him as he embarks on his pickleball journey. He’s currently the #4 ranked singles player on the PPA Tour.

Saturday, September 16 @ 3:45pm: The Underhills

For The Underhills, it’s all about the music. Well, the music… and big parties with lots of dancing, fun, food, and drink. And 80s movie quotes. And Seattle. But really, it’s about the music. Well, other people’s music.

With a rich, loud sound that brings people back to the songs they loved from their youth, The Underhills keep local crowds singing, laughing, and dancing through the night. Every set is packed with great tunes from the classic rock era, the 80s wave, and the driving sounds of the 90s.

Lead singer Craig Beilinson shines in both pop and rock genres. Guitarists Joe Barer and Dave Dederer (Google him) hit all the signature riffs. Ed Malakoff brings blues, jazz and soul to the keys and sweet harmonies. Bassist Christian Fulghum holds the groove and maintains the legacy of Seattle’s rich music history. Drummer “Sugar” Shane McArthur is the band’s heartbeat and funny bone.

And if our name doesn’t ring a bell, just grab your phone and type in “I’m with The Underhills.” After that, treat yourself to a Bloody Mary, a steak sandwich…and a steak sandwich, and put it on The Underhills. Be sure to stay connected with The Underhills on Instagram and Facebook.
