LAWRENCE ROSENBLOOM

A Profile by His Loving Daughter, Penny Kaufman

Lawrence Rosenbloom was a tremendous person. As a shareholder and executive of a successful foodservice equipment manufacturing company, Lawrence, together with his three partners, grew the business from a small Dallas-based company to having four factories around the United States. Lawrence was an active member of the Dallas Jewish Community, fought for human rights, and very active in the ADL, eventually becoming a board member and advocate for its mission. He was deeply connected to his Jewish faith.

On a personal side, my Dad was just the best. I called him the mayor. He was the life of the party; successful, smart, and most importantly, kind. My father started exhibiting signs that something was wrong in 2015 at the age of 63 and was eventually diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Degeneration. By the end of his life, he went from being the incredible person he once was to having no comprehension or self-awareness, unable to care for himself, and completely non-verbal.

And now, it is my time to show my Dad what he has taught us—tikkun olam— to pay it forward in a way that is most meaningful to me and my whole family.

In supporting Sid Jacobson JCC’s Care Day, I hope to educate care partners, both professional and personal, because there is nothing more important and noble than working to help those who can’t help themselves.  And there is nothing more important and noble than empowering those people with the skills and support to provide the best care possible.

Unfortunately, my father was never able to benefit from this care, but others will. I will make this my mission—in my father’s name and honor—to ensure that those caring for this population understand the importance of dignity and receive the training and support needed.

Thanks to The Kaufman Rosenbloom Family, our naming sponsor, this event is offered at a reduced rate. During the event, SJJCCs Adult Day Program will be in session for current participants.
