Urbanity X: The Davis Sisters X Marimba Cabaret

Friday January 17th 2020 • 8:00 pm
Urbanity Central, 725 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA

About the Event

Urbanity Dance presents the second of the “Urbanity X” series, a salon-style gathering featuring a unique pair of duos in a rare side-by-side performance. Dance theater experts Alexander Davis and Joy Davis of The Davis Sisters (related in every way except by blood) are co-hosting a fabulous cabaret of fun and frivolity with the multi-talented percussionists Brian Calhoon and Greg Jukes of Marimba Cabaret. Each duo will share new stories from their own relationships alongside classic acts from their repertoire culminating in the premiere of an exciting new collaboration you won't want to miss. Raise a glass and ring in the new year at this dynamic double premiere at Urbanity Central!

About the Artists

The Davis Sisters have been Artists in Residence at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and Studio @550; forthcoming at Chelsea Theater Works and Run of The Mills at Boston Center for the Arts. They were selected alongside Nicole Stanton of CT and Ian Berg’s Subject:Matter of MA for NEFA’s upcoming New England Dance on Tour to Williams College, Wesleyan University, The Dance Complex, Jacob’s Pillow, and Bates Dance Festival from late 2019 - 2020.

Marimba Cabaret is an evening of songs and stories featuring show tunes and pop covers re-imagined for marimba, vibraphone and voice. Brian Calhoon will sing and play marimba and (at times) stand 7-feet tall in sparkly stilettos. Directed and accompanied by percussionist Greg Jukes, Marimba Cabaret invites you to undo the taboo in this award-winning musical coming out story.
