Join Girls For A Change on Saturday, September 26 from 12pm-5pm EST / 9am-2pm PST for a virtual summit  to explore how to repair the harm to Black America while engaging in a dynamic dialogue with Black girls. Through this event we hope to inspire Black girls to find their voice and join our movement so that transformative change remains relevant to their lives. We know that Black girls are our future, and the key to creating the condition where Black people can thrive.

Black families were hit hard by the pandemic and the effects on their daughters may be long lasting. While the world is focused on social change, we are taking this opportunity to continue our social change work and bring it to a virtual format. Our theme this year is

 “You're the answer, not the problem.”

The silencing of and structural biases against Black women and girls has taken a serious toll on our girls and has been exacerbated by the pandemic. The rally will introduce Black women leaders who consistently show up and fight for the common good. 

Rally attendees will exit the event with approaches to tackling issues that have disproportionately impacted Black Amercans. Girls will participate in online training and information session, “Change Your World In A Day,” that is purposefully designed for the girls to share their own experiences, develop an understanding of their community at large, and design social change project. We hope this inspires attendees to either join a Girl Action Team, form a Girl Action Team, or become a coach for a Girl Action Team in the 2020-21 school year.

We've got an exciting line-up of door prizes for girls, parents, and community members who participate in the event. All attendees must participate in the full program to qualify. We're offering an opportunity to earn additional entries into our drawing. Each girl who registers and includes your name in their registration information will be entered into the raffle for these great prizes! 

Agenda

During this time we plan to gather in the name of social justice, exploring Girls For A Change's 7 steps to social change. On this day we will take the time to explore what social justice means to our Black girls that we serve, what it looks like, and how they can become social change agents  in their own right all while using and digging deeper into those 7 Steps. Co-creating social change projects  is one of the most effective ways Girls For A Change accomplish our goals.

We will have plenty of engaging activities, breakout sessions, dance parties, and "brain breaks" to ensure attendees have fun, get to know one another, and stay engaged.

Tips to prepare for the day

For girls attending our event, here are some tips so you know what to expect.

• Find a comfortable space where you have plenty of room to move (we're having a dance party).
• Have a journal, a pen, and markers with you.
• Grab some headphones so you can hear well.
• Eat before the event,
• Be ready to go 5 minutes before our start time.
• Be ready to show up, participate, and have fun with your peers.
