About the Event
Join us for a day of poetry performances and expression. Hosted by Tanja Richardson and Keenan Watson, The Wordsmith will feature artists Dex McBean, Keys Will, and DJ Kwan. Writers of all ages are welcome to participate in an open mic.
About the Hosts
Tanja Richardson
Tanja Richardson is a co-producer and co-founder of the WordSmith Poetry Showcase, which she and Keenan Watson developed and envisioned together. Tanja is a poet and writer, known by the pen name Fatal. Fort Greene Park is her favorite place; when weather permits, she sits, writes, and grounds herself. Her poetry is published in PRNOW magazine, where she is Events Creative Director, providing a platform to bring writers together and offer skill sets to enhance their craft for publication. She was a 2023 Fort Greene Community Hero, part of Group ICAC (Intergenerational Community Arts Council) in 2018, and a past Community Board 2 board member. She is currently a resident of Farragut, AD57, advocates for People Power, and stands for integrity and humanity.
Keenan Watson
As co-founder and co-producer of The Wordsmith Showcase, Keenan is focused on the commitment to organize and provide positive creative vehicles that encourage artists and benefit the community. Keenan Watson is a lifetime Brooklynite, born in Park Slope, on Park Place between 6th and 7th. Keenan’s family has Bed-Stuy roots dating back to 1930. Keenan’s education at Adelphi Academy, Bishop Loughlin, and the University of San Diego led him to a 25-year career in financial services, specializing in trading compliance. Life as a single father, mentor, entrepreneur, martial artist, artist, writer, multi-sport athlete, and corporate V.P. are the developmental experiences which Keenan brings forward to the present to combine with three generations of Brooklyn culture and reach this most refined and inspired period in his life.
