Everyone who knew Farzi remembers her favorite word: "sassy."
Indeed she was sassy in spirit and in her ways. She brightened every room with her warm smile, sense of humor, fashionable style and gentle acts of kindness. Her favorite hobby was to shop for the perfect gift for those she loved. She enjoyed playing with little kids and spoiling them with treats and toys. She was kind-hearted with the elderly and spent all her vacation days traveling to Iran to help take care of her elderly mother before she passed away.
In Lake Oswego, Farzi befriended Ruth, a 90-something old lady living by herself that she met on a jog. Farzi
called Ruth every day on her lunch break just so just so she would have someone checking on her daily. When her aunt in Iran fell ill, Farzi became instrumental in helping her heal and supporting her cousins with long daily video calls of love and encouragement.
She was a dedicated sister to her five siblings, including her twin brother, who all describe her as "our favorite sister" and "our best friend."
Farzi was an integral part of her two nieces lives in New York, from discussing election politics to offering advice on what to wear on dates and where to travel. As a twin herself, she particularly loved her twin great niece and nephew and proudly declared that Hanna was "so sassy" and Kian was "so so kind hearted."
She was passionate about her work as a skilled travel agent and took great pride in helping her clients smoothly navigate the hurdles of corporate traveling. Her colleagues at Uniglobe Spectrum remember how her favorite phrases cracked them up, some translated directly from her native Farsi to English. "Were you born at 6 months?" she used to say if someone was impatient around the office!
We celebrated her wonderful life on her last birthday, 62, on June 2nd with family and friends and chocolate cake. When she looked at the more than two dozen flowers that arrived for her and read the pile of birthday cards, she wiped away a tear and said, "I never knew I was so loved."
There are no words to describe how much we will all miss Farzi and how much we all loved her.
To honor her memory and to celebrate her life we ask that in lieu of flowers you donate to her favorite cause: helping fund cancer treatment for children with cancer in developing and third world countries.
The International Society for Children for Cancer was co-founded by Farzi's sister & caretaker during her cancer treatment Fereshteh. You can learn more about it here: ( www.iscc-charity.org )
Death can break the chain of life but it can never break the chain of love.

I was younger than her and ready to start a family, and she broke my heart ever so gently. She would call my work (travel) & say “Christopher,” which I’ve never used, and we would have long, leisurely conversations about Pavoratti the rest of the afternoon. If anyone ever heard about me, I was likely nicknamed “Josh Groban.” She taught me to love elegantly, encouraged my cavalier lothario, and held my head when she said I must go find the sassiest woman now to bare my children, for it was time. My hours with Farzeneh were too brief, but this morning it feels like my favorite lifetime. I am devastated to know she died of cancer, of all things. Blessings to everyone who ever speaks aloud the name Farzeneh Tavakoli. This is the first time in years I wish I made obscene amounts of money, for this donation would be Farzi’s palace of gold.

Farzi & I had a brief, long distance romance in the 90’s. We met in Thailand, essentially riding an elephant together

My deepest condolences to Farzi's loving family. I loved reading about her "sassy" nature, and her descriptions of Hanna and Kian (I would agree!). And it's no surprise to hear how loved she is, knowing her niece Tannaz, who is treasured by her friends and colleagues. May you find comfort in your wonderful memories of her. xoxo, Chris
