Thank you for visiting my fundraiser.
From the moment I met my future wife in 2006, FTD became a part of my life. Amy's Aunt Libby had been diagnosed first, and her Uncle Mike was next. I never met Libby, but it was my pleasure to know Mike; though Amy always wishes I knew him 'before'. I love to hear the stories her (now, my) family tells of him, and I share in their laughter.
As an avid runner, this opportunity to run the TCS New York City Marathon allows me to use my passion for distance running to support an organization that I know is creating a better world and hope for those families afflicted by FTD now and those that will be, AFTD. AFTD is working hard to find a cure for this horrible disease and support the families that care for those diagnosed. I hope you will join me as I train, run countless miles (OK, I am counting them), soothe blistered feet, and raise awareness and much needed funds for this important organization. Together, we can fight FTD!
About FTD: Frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) is the most common form of dementia for people under the age of 60. It strikes in the prime of life, gradually eroding an individual’s personality: their ability to speak, make sound decisions, control their movements, behave within social norms and relate to those they love. FTD devastates familial relationships, finances and even the health of family caregivers themselves. Currently there are no approved treatments, and most providers lack knowledge of appropriate care. Average life expectancy is 7-13 years after the start of symptoms.
