What seems like a lifetime ago now, can also seem like yesterday when I think about the memories of losing my mom at 14 years old.  A class trip to Washington D.C. in the eigth grade was cut short when I flew home after learning of her hospitalization.  When doctors confirmed their low expectations for recovery, I'll never forget the day that I visited her in the hospital and said my goodbyes at her bedside. It was scary, sad and something no child should have to experience. It forever shaped my life and although I continued to grow up with many wonderful friends and family after her death, I would have loved something as impactful as Kate's Club.

I thought that I'd stumbled upon Kate's Club years ago while looking for ways to get involved in the Atlanta community. What I didn't realize, at the time, was that God was leading me to an organization that would become a beautiful blessing.

One in thirteen children in Georgia will suffer the loss of a parent or child by age 18 - roughly 111,000 kids in Metro Atlanta. Kate’s Club is the only organization in the metro area providing long-term therapeutic and recreational support for these children.  Throughout the year, Kate's Club offers fun clubhouse days, exciting outings, and camp TWICE a year, so that children who have suffered the loss of a parent, sibling, or caretaker, can bond with other children who have gone through similar experiences.  Kate’s Club offers its programming free of charge, so families and children who need this support are not left behind.

Each year, on the Sunday prior to Children's Grief Awareness Day, the Atlanta community comes to together to honor and advocate for grieving children, teens and their families at Memory Walk. Normally, Kate’s Club Memory Walk is an interactive and family-friendly 2k that creates awareness around childhood grief.  This year, due to the ongoing COVID 19 crisis, our Memory Walk will be virtual, or, "in the wild!"  "

Kate's club encourages everyone who would like to be involved this year to show support by making a donation, participate individually, and form or join a team! Making a difference while practicing social distancing—walking, running, cycling, dancing—all in honor of our member families and the grieving community as a whole- is truly appreciated. Then, join us online on November 8 , 2020 (Time TBD) and celebrate with Kate's Club in a virtual closing ceremony!

Would you help me meet my fundraising goal for this very special organization?  I would love even more if you would spread the word about Kate's Club.  Any and all support truly helps some fantastic kids! Thank you!
