Last Friday, SCOTUS struck down Roe v. Wade, a legal protection for abortion that has been in force for most of my life.  Although this move was anticipated and organizations like Planned Parenthood Southeast have been planning for months to meet the need, the realities we are facing are daunting - eliminating abortion, criminalizing abortion providers and those who provide any kind of assistance to someone seeking an abortion, making it illegal to travel to another state to get an abortion, and long wait times for those seeking birth control.  

I am proud to serve on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Southeast, which provides reproductive health services and education in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.  Our region has been hit especially hard by the SCOTUS decision. Our dedicated staff has been working hard and under difficult circumstances to meet the needs of our patients and the communities we serve.  But the need is great and we must do more to see more patients, provide greater access to birth control, and fight against those have denied health care and human rights to so many.  We will not go back.
