Hello friends, colleagues, and family! I will be running the 2023 NYC Marathon on behalf of a phenomenal organization called AKTIV Against Cancer. Founded in 2007 by nine-time NYC Marathon champion, Grete Waitzthe, the organization works to ensure physical activity becomes an integral part of cancer treatment, both during and after. 

Since inception, AKTIV has donated over $14 million in three key regions – Norway, United States, and Ethiopia. In addition to opening 16 physical activity centers called Pusterommet ("Breathing Room") in cancer treatment hospitals throughout the country, AKTIV invests in the field of exercise oncology research, studying how physical activity impacts cancer and cancer treatment.

As some of you know, my mom battled colon cancer a few years ago, demonstrating incredible strength and grace throughout the process. These days, I am constantly in her ear about making sure she gets her steps in, does her strength exercises, and eats enough protein (granted my success rate with her ebbs and flows).  I believe in finding joy in movement - through whatever means that may be for you. In my case, running sparks that joy...And although Chicago has not trained me for the hills of Central Park, I am committed to spending the next several months getting very well acquainted with them.
