Hello!  

I am proud to be running in this year's TCS New York City Marathon to support AKTIV Against Cancer, in their fight to support the research behind and accessibility of physical activity as a treatment for cancer.  

When I started my running journey in 2020, I didn't even consider that I'd get this far. Heck, I had just finished rebuilding my strength to walk again after a major surgery and month-long stay in the ICU. While the dire medical straits that I found myself in were not cancer related, I can nonetheless speak passionately on the healing powers that physical activity provided for me personally -- physically, emotionally and spiritually. I truly don't know where I would be if I hadn't laced up my shoes.  

Now, if you're reading this page you likely already know me and are somewhat familiar with my story, but many of you may not be familiar with AKTIV Against Cancer.  

Founded in 2007 in Norway and established in the U.S. in 2014, AKTIV Against Cancer works towards the mission statement of making physical activity a vital part of cancer treatment.  I encourage you to read through their website www.aktivagainstcancer.org to see the multiple different avenues they are fighting this battle, but a few highlights I'll pull here:

- AKTIV Against Cancer has donated over $17M in support of its mission to make physical activity part of cancer treatment. .

- AKTIV Against Cancer has pledged $3.3 million to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to fund pioneering exercise oncology research led by the world renown Dr. Lee Jones, PhD.  

- AKTIV Against Cancer supports an exchange program between Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa and Oslo University Hospital in Norway. This program provides oncology training to Ethiopian doctors and nurses to help address the limited doctor-to-patient ratio.
