I am honored to have been selected to run the 2023 NYC Marathon on November 5th as part of the AKTIV Against Cancer Charity to raise money for their wonderful organization which works to ensure physical activity will become an integral part of cancer treatment.

I am running in honor of my Dad who lost his long, hard fought battle with cancer on February 15, 2021. Fitness was always a big part of his life even after his initial diagnosis in 2007. Whether it was playing golf, tennis, skiing, mowing his beloved lawn, or taking long walks (dutifully tracking each step with his trusty Fitbit) he never let his diagnosis or treatment slow him down.

In the fall of 2019, he was still in good health and able to watch my wife run the NYC Marathon with both our families. It has become one of my favorite memories. We walked close to 10 miles tracking her, finally settling at the 25th mile in Central Park where we witnessed the triumph and energy of all those runners so close to completing the race, which was so inspiring to watch (we also got featured on ESPN as the elite runners ran by which he loved).

He was so excited to be there and even more excited about the prospect of watching me eventually run. While I'm sad he won't physically be there, I know he will be in spirit.
