This September I will be cycling from Canada to Mexico along the US West coast as part of my fundraising efforts! Please help me support Conscious Impact however you can.
Donations will support Conscious Impact, a non-profit organization working in the rural village of Takure, where 98.6% of the homes were lost during the devastating 2015 earthquakes. Along with the local community, they are working to support resilient livelihoods for farming communities.
Conscious Impact's intention is to empower the local community to continue to build safe and sustainable homes, plant income generating trees, support quality education, and provide for themselves for generations to come. Their work has inspired me to travel to rural Nepal to volunteer and contribute. Your donation supports their work and goes directly to the community of Takure.
Over the last three years, CI has helped introduce a new, affordable, environmentally friendly, and locally produced building material - Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB). These earth blocks are made with local soil, sand, and a bit of cement at The Takure Training Center. They test 4x stronger than traditional clay bricks and can easily be built into safe, earthquake-resistant homes. With the support of hundreds of donors, volunteers, and community members these earth blocks have rebuilt more than 100 homes, 2 primary schools, several community centers in the region, and a local orphanage. However, these projects are just the beginning. The Brick Production & Training Center is a nearly self-sufficient, Nepali run business which can function as a regional hub for local, culturally-relevant, sustainable, earthquake-resistant, and affordable technologies in building.
However, rebuilding a community is more than just brick and mortar. The Sindhupalchok region of Nepal is made up of agrarian communities which helped to inspire the agricultural program. Volunteers work hand-in-hand with community members, learning from each other, to reignite the local environment with permaculture principles. The formation of the Takure Coffee Cooperative and distribution of more than 15,000 trees have laid the groundwork for generations of improved livelihoods and land. This past year Conscious Impact also supported local families through a community-driven water project which will provide water to more than 100 families.
