It is the fourth time Madelyn has participated in the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire's Howl-O-Ween 5k. This year, her language is getting broader, her emotions are getting more expressive, and now she can actually physically run. This could work out well for us (her parents) as we won't have to push a stroller or it could go very, very poorly as she is highly likely to try and run to every dog she sees on the trail. Only time will tell.

Again, I have to write Madelyn's story for her as her typing skills are that of a three year old...rightfully so I guess. But luckily many of you reading this know how it goes at this point so I can be short and to the point. 

As Madelyn's love for animals continues to grow, I am constantly amazed at the opportunities she gets to be a part of that most kids could only dream of. Part of this is thanks to her parents being crazy enough to adopt a large quantity and variety of animals, but the other part we owe to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire. Madelyn has gotten to participate in activities for kids that are geared towards humane education such as the Santa Photos event and the Stuffed Animal Clinic. She has also been able to help animals we bring home for foster care. Not only has she become an expert at cleaning up after some of these animals (an important skill) she has also learned how to point a baby bottle at a kittens kidney in attempt to feed it (less important skill but good intentions). 

Madelyn has experienced so much in her short three years on earth; so much love for animals, so much heartbreak for the loss of animals, and so much more heartbreak when her dogs steal her snacks. But what Madelyn doesn't understand yet is the amount of work we do at the Animal Rescue League of NH to fundraise and be able to take care of these animals. It takes $1.4 million dollars to be able to help the 2,000+ animals we assist each and every year. With no state or federal funding and being 100% reliant upon donations, it is a huge undertaking.

This is just part of why we sign up to participate in this year (and every year's) Howl-O-Ween 5k on 10/19/2024 at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, NH to benefit the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire. We hope to make a small but mighty dent in the annual fundraising needs of the shelter to continue helping as many animals as we can.
