This summer, I am honored to serve as an intern at Save a Child's Heart (SACH) in Israel, where I've had the incredible opportunity to contribute to saving lives from around the world.

At SACH, I witnessed firsthand how dedicated medical professionals volunteer their expertise to provide life-saving cardiac care to children from 62 developing countries, completely free of charge. An estimated 5.5 million children in developing nations around the world will die because the  heart surgery they require is unobtainable. SACH is committed to changing that.

One of the most rewarding moments of my internship was getting to know Djene, an 11-year-old boy from Ethiopia, whose life was transformed by the surgery he received at SACH. Despite the language barrier, Djene and I play UNO and make all sorts of art projects every day. We now wear matching bracelets—a symbol of his journey to health and the bond we share through this life-changing experience.

Every day at SACH reinforced the profound impact that humanitarian efforts can have on individuals and communities worldwide. The cost of saving a life here is remarkably efficient, just $15,000, thanks to the dedication and generosity of volunteers and donors.
