I am proud to be running the Boston Marathon as a part of Team AKTIV! This cause means a lot to me, as I believe I am living out their mission each and every day. I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2017, and spent a good portion of 2018 undergoing surgeries and treatments to remove the cancer from my body. Unfortunately, in 2019, not only did the cancer came back, but I was upgraded to a stage 4 diagnosis, at the age of 31. Since 2019, I have underwent one surgery, two rounds of radiation, and five lines of treatment to keep cancer at bay. I am happy to report that I have been stable & no evidence of active disease (NEAD) since the spring of 2023. I remain in lifelong treatment, as I know firsthand that my cancer can come back at any time.
I started running in 2014, in a quest to collect "shiny things" (aka, medals). In 2018, upon completion of cancer treatment, I got back into running, but this time, I was doing it for me. Since I started running in 2014, I have completed dozens of half marathons, more 5Ks than I can count, and multiple marathons. In early 2023, after recovering from chemo related health issues & learning I can run again, I took on the challenge of completing the Abbott World Major Marathons. I did this to prove that I can do whatever I set my mind to, and to take advantage of opportunities while my health cooperates. I completed the Chicago & New York City marathons in 2023, and the London & Berlin Marathons in 2024. I will be heading to Japan in March 2025 to run the Tokyo Marathon. Running Boston in 2025 will be the culmination of my journey to complete all six world major marathons.
The past 7 years as a cancer patient has been quite the rollercoaster. I do not take my health for granted, and I consider myself to be very blessed to be as active as I am - despite the fact I am in lifelong cancer treatment. I have always believed that maintaining a good attitude, along with remaining as active as my body allows, has a huge impact on improving my normal day-to-day. At 36 years old, living with stage 4 breast cancer for 5 years, I can honestly say that I feel stronger now than I did in my 20s, prior to getting sick.
Please help me support AKTIV Against Cancer and my quest to finish the Abbott World Majors by making a donation through my page. The process is fast, easy and secure. Thanks so much for your support... and please don't forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating!
