I am participating (dancing!) in the 9th Annual Dancing with the Stars Fundraiser in Charlotte benefiting breast health, breast cancer family support services, and children’s mental health.  

Originally from Raleigh, NC, I am lucky to have called Washington D.C., Pasadena, CA, and Menlo Park, CA my home before moving to Charlotte two years ago. Dancing with the Stars was one of the first events that made me appreciate the special community here in Charlotte.  Cancer and mental health touch each of us in personal ways and therefore I am proud to be part of DWTS’ efforts to raise awareness and funds to support such important causes.  

My husband, Chris, and I have three daughters and we constantly encourage them to try new things, particularly things that push them out of their comfort zones.  It occurred to me that I should follow this same advice.  I am certainly not a dancer or a “star” in Charlotte but I will work hard to make an impact in the community that welcomed our family two years ago.

Please join me in donating to this year’s event benefiting The Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center at Novant, The Go Jen Go Foundation, and The Katie Blessing Foundation.  Here are a few powerful statistics shared by these organizations:

• Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the United States. 1 in 8 women have a chance of developing breast cancer. The Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center at Novant addresses the need for strong breast health care. The Go Jen Go Foundation provides hope and critical support to families facing the burden of a breast cancer diagnosis.  
• Children with mental health challenges rates are soaring and North Carolina ranks 50th of 50 US states when it comes to quality behavioral health care access. The Katie Blessing Center will be North Carolina’s largest and most advanced pediatric and adolescent care facility. They will begin treating patients in the Fall of 2025.
