So my story is pretty simple, I went blind just over two years ago due to diabetes and poor management of my health and my lifestyle. I’d love to say I transitioned into this new life very easily, but it knocked me down to a point where I wasn’t sure if I could get up. Thankfully, I have a strong support structure in my life that most people do not that help me start to get up, but I still was afraid of everything. Normal things as far as just going for a walk or going to the grocery store or even just cooking in my own home scared me. The people in my life that are closest to me no that I generally don’t let fears hold me back or stop me. I usually use them to motivate me but for once in my life, it really just stopped me. I’ve managed to start to get some of my independence back before I came to the Carrol Center, but now being here it has unlocked a fire in me and a sense of strength and independence that I haven’t had since I went blind. I am going to do everything I can to both help lift up the Carrol Center and spread the word about what happens to someone when they lose their vision or become visually impaired it is life-changing in life altering in ways. You will never understand unless you go through it, and I hope no one ever has to. But if you do the Carrol Center will help you it will guide you and will help bring back a sense of normalcy to your life in a sense of independence that you can count on yourself again.
