I am doing this fundraiser for my dad, Darren Baldasare, who lost his battle to GBM in 2016. My dad was my best friend and the person who continues to inspire me daily. He was an incredible person who valued community service and inspired many to pursue their dreams. GRAY FOR GLIOBLASTOMA SOCIETY funds glioblastoma tumor research. This is an area of research that needs more funding due to such a low percentage of funding going towards GBM research. With the survivability rate being less than 6.9% after 5 years from diagnosis and the average survival time being 8 months, this is a disease that needs to be eradicated. My dad was diagnosed on May 16th, 2016. He survived and fought hard for 7 months. He passed on December 19th, 2016. My dad was an extremely healthy person who played/coached soccer for 10 years before he was diagnosed. Working out/running was something I loved to do with my dad. So at the end of April I will be running my 3rd half marathon in honor of him. It's something I always dreamed of us doing together, but now I can do it for the both of us. Being able to raise funds for glioblastoma research while doing something we both love is something I am so thankful for.
