Welcome to Seth's page!

I am excited to invite you to participate with me in taking up God’s call to spread the gospel. In any battle, there are those whose assignment is to go to the front lines. Their success—even their lives—depends on a network of support to produce and supply them with everything they need for the task. If they are abandoned at the front lines, they will be surrounded, besieged, and destroyed. In the spiritual battle that we now face, both those who go and those who send are a part of the same mission and reap the same spiritual rewards (1 Samuel 30.24 and 3 John 6-8). United Christian Academy is sending a team to Guatemala on a service and learning trip and I’ve been invited to be a member of the team. Our team will be serving in Guatemala from approximately May 31st – June 11th. We plan on splitting our time in Guatemala in different parts:

•The first part of our trip will be spent in the community of Antigua learning about the history, language, and culture of Guatemala. We’ll also return to Antigua for the last leg of our trip where we will partner with As Green As It Gets to meet and work alongside the coffee farmers and their families with the goal of learning about economic injustice and the realities of extreme poverty.

•From there we go to the town of Machaquilá to work at an orphanage that UCA has recently decided to form a long term partnership with. The children have all been displaced or abandoned due to drug addiction and the violence that often is associated with that lifestyle, our ministry will be providing supplies to the local school and children, working on longer-term economic development efforts and assisting in any way possible with the kids.

Throughout our time in Guatemala, our goal is to use our gifts/abilities to serve, to encourage and walk alongside the nationals, and to experience for ourselves how to effectively show Christ’s love in any setting.

Another goal of our trip is to change the culture of our school body to become more like the Antioch church as Luke describes it in the book of Acts. In the course of their normal devotion to God in worship, prayer, and fasting, the leaders were told by the Holy Spirit to send Barnabas and Paul to spread the gospel abroad (chapter 13). In the same way, our goal is to become a generous community that participates actively and cheerfully in both sides of the mission of God—going and sending. Before I address how you can partner with me on this trip, I would like to briefly share with you how I decided to take this step of faith.
