Care-giving can be lonely and isolating. When days are long and patience is running thin, we need people around us to carry us through. We need people to bring a meal, hold the baby while we shower, listen as we cry about losing our temper again, or meet us at the park to play. We need community.
So many refugee and immigrant parents risk everything, sacrifice the lives they've built and known for the sake of safety and opportunities for their children. When they arrive in West Michigan, however, they find themselves parenting without the community support they had. Lack of childcare frequently limits educational and career opportunities for parents who are needing to make ends meet.
The cross-cultural community center at 906 Division will be a place where parents from around the community can connect and build community. A designated area for onsite childcare will make it possible for parents to participate in classes or access support services while children play safely nearby.
Are you a caregiver who has been inspired by another parent or caregiver on your journey? Do you want to partner with parents who have given everything to make a way for their children, or children who have given everything to show up for their parents? Join us!
