Survive-Oars Set to Race in Head of the Charles in Their Pink Boat!
In honor of Breast Cancer Survivor Exhibition at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston on October 19th. Eleven boats from around the world, including the iconic pink boat of The Survive-Oars, will race to raise awareness about the benefits of rowing for breast cancer survivors, thanks to the incredible efforts of the Survivor Rowing Network.
We are reaching out to you for support to ensure the continuation of the Survive-Oars program! Your tax-deductible donation can make a significant impact on the lives of cancer survivors.
Founded in 2018, the Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport, Connecticut, in partnership with the Smilow Family Health Center at Norwalk Hospital, transformed a small group of breast cancer patients and survivors into rowers. Now in our seventh year, we continue to welcome new members annually.
Our group offers an empowering experience for women who find solace in the physical and mental benefits of rowing and being part of a supportive team. Building stamina, strength, and flexibility, along with the strong bonds we form, are integral to our healing journey. We are immensely grateful for this life-changing experience. The future of our program relies on contributions. Please consider making a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation to support this 501(c)3 organization. Funds raised will help expand the program to welcome new Survive-Oars. Join us in changing lives for years to come!"
What we’re saying:
“This program has been life changing and life giving for so many women including myself!”
Lori Boersma, Rower
“These ladies are an inspiration and represent to the world that you can do anything you put your heart and mind to. These ladies have chosen NOT to be defined by their diagnosis. They deserve to row in style in their new pink boat.”
Coach Diana Kuen
“Beyond grateful and excited to be a part of this! Survive-oars gave me the skill and determination to be crazy enough to take this on.”
Amy Bauer, Rower
“Excited to show cancer patients we can do hard things! Even if hard things mean my blisters have blisters”
Karen Herman, Rower
“I count my blessings and am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Survive-Oars, which has been inspiring in numerous ways, and row in the HOCR alongside such an incredible group of people.”
Lisa Norat, Rower
The priorities of the Saugatuck Survive-Oars are, in order:
1. Community and Support
2. Rowing Skills
3. Competition
Community and support are natural to our group, and we love to lift each other up. Mastering Rowing Skills is a work in progress, but we have great coaches and work extremely hard. And now we’ve reached #3, competition, in the world’s largest regatta along with ten other cancer survivor boats. We’ve come a long way! Go Survive-Oars! #HOCR
Please help us continue to change lives for years to come! Your donation is 100% tax deductible and appreciated!
