Transforming young lives in Chicago
Transforming young lives in Chicago
“During my time in Guitars Over Guns, I’ve felt the support I’ve always known I needed, but was afraid I'd never find.”
—Delani F., student, Curie Metro High School
GOGO Chicago is celebrating 10 years in the Windy City. Since 2014, we've reached over 4,000 mentees across the South, West, and Southwest sides of Chicago, and now Waukegan!
Help us continue our mission of bringing music and mentorship to our most vulnerable communities. In the 2024-25 school year, we are poised to make a greater impact than ever before. We have an unbelievable mentor team in place, excellent partners in the community, and classrooms full of students eager for opportunity and ready to embark on their musical adventure.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- 13 artistic disciplines offered: Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keys, Latin Percussion, Modern Band, Music Production, Photography & Digital Media, Poetry & Creative Writing, Rap, Songwriting, Spoken Word, and Vocals
- 43 professional musician mentors trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid and trauma-informed best practices
- 89% of students felt encouraged by their Guitars Over Guns mentors to work through difficult problems
- 91% of students reported that their Guitars Over Guns mentor expects them to explore new interests and do their best
This year, your support will enable us to deepen our M-Power mental health programming to support students' creative and holistic growth, bring students on an unforgettable field trip to professionally film and record their own music video, and continue to expand our reach and partnerships in our most vulnerable communities.
Thank you for believing in the boundless potential of young people and the transformative power of mentorship and the arts!
