When you first meet Audrey, you’ll immediately be taken in by her intense, thoughtful brown eyes. Although Audrey will likely always be non-verbal, her eyes speak volumes. They convey so much emotion and thought, it’s heartbreaking to never really know exactly what’s on her mind. If you’re one of the lucky few to have Audrey a part of your life, there will be no feeling greater than when she recognizes you, lights up and reaches out to you. Audrey’s favorite pastime is spending time doing anything outdoors. It is heartwarming to see the joy that the simple things; wind blowing through her hair, rain on her skin and the sun warming her face brings to her. When Audrey gives you a hug, she means it. She’ll hold you tight and it feels like she is trying to protect you, instead of the other way around. Her smile is radiant, genuine and can brighten the darkest day. She is giggly, loves to be tickled and her laugh is infectious.
 
There is no doubt that Audrey is extraordinary. But a genetic mutation MEF2C has robbed Audrey of so many things that most of us take for granted. She requires one on one support for all daily activities and has very limited ability to communicate her needs. She can walk short distances but she will never run, play a sport, drive a car, have a job, or have a typical friend or sibling relationship.
 
Her family’s hope is that a treatment will be found that will allow Audrey to live a fuller and more independent life.
