Welcome to our team page!
Our individual team members have combined forces to create this awesome fundraising team. Together we will raise more money for Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire and the Meatloaf's in our community than we ever could alone!
Who is Meatloaf?
Friday, September 1st was the day we met a snorting, flat faced, short of breath, overweight, cherry-eyed, one-cell brained delight and dubbed him Meatloaf.
Tuesday, March 12th was the day that this marvelous creature became ours and can finally start his journey home. Meatloaf was one of many animals seized as part of an investigation last year, and due to the nature of the court system, waited many months in our shelter due to postponments, until his owner finally agreed to surrender the majority of their pets.
Though purebred, Meatloaf is not well bred. In fact, Meatloaf is a medical disaster. With an elongated palate and small nares, breathing doesn’t come easy. And any over exertion or excitement readily turns Meatloaf blue, as though he should be a cartoon character. Meatloaf has lost all ability to be stealthy as even a leisure walk is accompanied by raspy snorting with every breath. If dogs could use sleep apnea machines… this boy would need one.
If only difficulty breathing was his only issue. Meatloaf has cherry eyes, causing discomfort to his eyes and an over production of mucous. Cleaning his eyes and applying eye meds multiple times a day only provides minimal relief. Meatloaf also suffers from interdigital cysts, common in bulldogs likely associated with being overweight, allergies, and the stress of his life thus far. These cysts between his toes can be painful and need regular attention to prevent reoccurrence and further infection. And lastly, Meatloaf needs to be neutered. Simply put, his genetics should end with him.
Though Meatloaf has been with us for months on end, his real journey starts now. When animals are held as evidence, nothing can be done for those pets that alters their appearance, so the multiple surgeries that Meatloaf needs were put on hold until custody was released. Basic care of Meatloaf has already cost us thousands with little hope of recuperating those funds through the court system, the hope for Meatloaf to live a more comfortable life also comes at a great expense. That doesn’t deter us though as Meatloaf has gone from a filthy overcrowded negligent existence to a shelter with staff and volunteers who adore him and want him to know what being healthy in a loving happy home feels like. With your help we can make this dream a reality.
Meatloaf is just one of the over 2,000 pets and the people who care for them that the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire helps each year! Receiving no state or federal funding, the ARLNH is 100% reliant upon the generosity of their supporters to raise over $1.4 million this year to continue their many community programs and be there for all of the Leslie's in need.
