Welcome to No Turning Back
Welcome to No Turning Back
I have always been into cars, but about 20 years ago got his first Lotus. I love the look of the cars and the ability to be able to work on them. With two boys ages 14 and 15, looking for a 4 seater car, I found the Elan Plus 2 to be a perfect fit. A car to work on with the boys and something they can also ride along in. I am extremely grateful for the health and well-being of my kids and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend time then raising money for kids and driving with some British cars.
Based on similar events in the UK, Driving for Kids is the Colorado version of a British Reliability Run. Begun in Britain when cars were first introduced, these reliability runs like the London to Brighton Run, were quite a challenge for the newfangled horseless carriage. Now it is more a nostalgic tribute to the spirit of “Motoring”. Driving for Kids is a three day drive in old British cars benefitting the Roundup River Ranch mission. It is not a race, and is run on public roads at posted speeds. It is an endurance test of sorts, to see just how reliable these supposedly “unreliable” British cars really are. Driving for Kids is a fun weekend with fellow owners of old British cars orchestrated by Ann and Ross Robbins to combine two things they cherish: kids and cars. Wanting to find a way to help kids through the car hobby they became aware of the Hole in the Wall Gang camps founded by Paul Newman who was also a dedicated car nut. The perfect connection was made to our local camp, Roundup River Ranch, and Driving for Kids was launched.
Roundup River Ranch is a medically-supported camp for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. At camp, the children can just feel incredible, no matter what illness they’re battling. The focus is on fun, not their conditions. Most importantly, they are given an experience that energizes their spirits, allowing them to simply enjoy the fun, games, and joys of childhood – all free to campers and their families. Here is a link to a short video that will give you a sense of the camp: www.roundupriverranch.org.
